The "beacon hill" is one of the most walked munros in Scotland. This is probably due to the fact that it's the most southerly munro and is also referred to as Glasgow's hill.

Compared to many of the other munros its also a reasonably easy ascent, with a good path running most of the way to the summit. We had a great days walking here and converted another heathen to the pleasures of hillwalking.

  • The start point is at the wooded carpark at the end of the public road beyond the Rowardennan hotel.

  • From here follow the north easterly path through the trees, and it shortly opens up into a well maintained path that will lead you pretty much to the top of the hill via the middle of the wide ridge.

  • The path zig zags and drops suddenly a couple of times towards the end of the walk...... so now that you're expecting it you wont be surprised when it happens. The summit grid ref is 367029.

  • Just to keep things simple the route back is the same as the route up..... easy.

The pier and small beach area near the carpark is a pleasant area to further enjoy the scenery offered by what is definitely Scotlands most famous loch....... no doubt those of you with a monster fetish will beg to differ.

Bit misty at the top.
